{"id":2378,"date":"2017-01-05T12:43:10","date_gmt":"2017-01-05T11:43:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riocom.at\/en\/?p=2378"},"modified":"2017-01-10T14:20:18","modified_gmt":"2017-01-10T13:20:18","slug":"making-the-development-of-damage-potential-visible-in-a-large-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riocom.at\/en\/making-the-development-of-damage-potential-visible-in-a-large-area\/","title":{"rendered":"Making the development of damage potential visible in a large area \u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-post-thumbnail wp-image-2337\" src=\"https:\/\/riocom.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/17_02_WaWi_Entwicklung_01-811x490.png\" alt=\"17_02_wawi_entwicklung_01\" width=\"811\" height=\"490\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>An almost fully automated method<\/h3>\n<p>In the project &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/riocom.at\/en\/projekt\/hydrological-development-in-floodplains\/\">Flood Damage Potential: Evaluation and Prognosis of the Hydrological Development<\/a>&#8221; of the Regional Government of Upper Austria, RIOCOM and the Institute of Water Management, Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineering (IWHW) of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boku.ac.at\/en\/\">University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences<\/a> have developed an almost fully automated method for the calculation of damage potential in an arbitrarily large area &#8211; at district or country level, for example.<\/p>\n<p>The core part of this method is the extraction of buildings from ortho-photos and the calculation of damage potential in a flood plain at different times using GIS.<\/p>\n<p>The results can be used<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To identify municipalities and regions with a high absolute damage potential or a high dynamic of the damage potential.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>To recommend appropriate measures in order to reduce the potential damage in these areas.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230; and illustrating the current settlement activities!?!
